Governance and Leadership

The Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) is the national authority established under the National Law. ACECQA  works with all governments to provide guidance, resources and services to support the sector to improve outcomes for children and to realise the benefits of the National Quality Framework. 
ACECQA has a range of functions, including:
  • establishing consistent and efficient procedures for the operation of the National Quality Framework
  • conducting national consistency audits
  • determining approved qualifications for educators
  • determining qualifications for authorised officers
  • publishing ratings, guides and resources
  • maintaining public registers of national approvals
  • setting and awarding the highest rating, 'Excellent'
  • advising the Ministerial Council on the National Quality Framework
  • fostering continuous quality improvement.
The Education and Care Services National Regulations provide detail on a range of operational requirements for an education and care service.  They also set out the range of transaction fees applicable to an education and care service.
